Versions 0.9.3 && 0.9.2 Notes || Plans for 0.9.4!


History/Overview:

Since revisiting this project for Improve My Game Jam 36 I have made various fixes and new content in the game. I made this project originally for a Unity Coursera course in 2020 and finally decided to publish it to itch.io earlier this year in April.  I thought revisiting and improving the project would be a great way to get back into game development. Although I don't plan on working on this project for much longer, I will try to improve the game as much as I can before the end of December. I think it would be a good idea to log my development over the next few weeks and this will act as my first log. Link to Original Project

Development Workflow Changes:

  • I have integrated itch.io's version control tool Butler, to make uploading and managing game builds easier.
  • I have integrated the project with Git Hub for version control. This is my first time using Git Hub for any project and believe this will help my development process to be more organized.
  • I have made a Trello board to help keep track of objectives and current bugs for the game. This is my first time using a software to organize project management, but I have already reaped big benefits by being able to visualize all of the systems/mechanics/UI I wish to implement or improve on.

Version 0.9.3 Changes:

  • Added Intro Menu to quickly teach player how to play on the player's first run.
  • Edited Help Menu to show controls/how to play/items, and what they do.
  • Slime Explosion Animation sped up.
  • Tower System refinements to allow for different towers to be placed in the future.
Fixed Bugs:
  • Fixed Bug where bullets would collide with the Bat's attack radius instead of the bat itself.
  • Fixed Bug where bats would attack Tower's attack radius instead of the tower itself,
  • Fixed Bug where slime explosions damaged the tower if in the tower's attack radius, even when the explosion was not close enough to the tower
  • Fixed Visual Bug where TowerRepair pickup would spawn as a HealthPotion pickup.


Version 0.9.2 Changes:

  • Added New Bat Enemy
  • Added Slime Variant: Giant Slime
  • Added Weapon Recoil Mechanic
  • Added Weapon Reload Mechanic
  • Added Weapon UI to Player HUD
  • Added New Tower Repair Pickup
  • Refined Wave System to allow more than 1 enemy type to spawn in a wave.
  • Minimap is now slightly transparent to allow the player to see enemies easily
Fixed Bugs:
  • Fixed Visual Bug where slimes would be on the main menu after returning from the gameplay scene.
  • Fixed Bug where bullets would sometimes shoot off in a completely different direction than where the player was aiming.
  • Fixed Bug where towers could be placed on top of the Base.
  • Fixed Bug where slime would sometimes not die on the last frame of the explode animation.


Plans for 0.9.4 (Planned Release 12/19/24):

  • Add a new Spazer Tower. Spazer Tower will shoot orange waves of energy and shoot faster and deal more damage than Cannon Towers! However, they cost more coins and have a smaller attack radius than Cannon Towers.
  • Improve the Tower System to allow the player to switch between and build different towers.
  • Add Sounds for bat enemy and Spazer Tower
